Where does the text come from that you are copying and pasting with the
F keys, then?

As I said, I didn't know you could use the F keys in this way so I have
no idea what the difference is.

Personally, I use Free Clip to store all the text items which I need to
paste frequently into Legacy.  I find it invaluable.
