Usually you can go look at what hardware is installed by opening the Control Panel in Windows then looking under Device Manager. Make a note of the model number, version number, and date.
Not all updates are worth installing. You also have to make sure you are installing the correct one or it can seriously mess up your system. I'd also be careful installing some that come with Windows Updates because they're not always specific for your system. I found an updated driver for my system that was dated 1972. They didn't have PC's back then so I was definitely not installing it. It's best to get drivers from the manufacturer of the video card and not some knock-off mirror website. Sometimes the buttons would show up, but were below the bottom of the window and I couldn't read the labels on the buttons. This was just a temporary solution because adjusting the display options made everything either too big or too small for other programs so I uninstalled the programs that were causing the problems. I never had this problem in Legacy 7.5 or 8. I recall it happening all the time in older Adobe software and WordPerfect which tells me it isn't a Legacy issue. Mike Fry makes a good suggestion. It is most likely the display driver. I never had the problem again after my updated driver became available. Sometimes, these sorts of problems can be as a result of an out-of-date display driver. -- Regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp Follow Legacy on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/LegacyFamilyTree) and on our blog (http://news.LegacyFamilyTree.com).
