Hi Gary,

I wouldn't use (Smith) to indicate a married surname. Too confusing.
I use [[Smith]].
This is the only "blank" field I fill as I agree with Sherry that unknown 
information is easier to spot if there's nothing there - and you can use the 
facility in the reports to print a line for unknown information.
I don't like a long list of Mary's and Anne's with no indication of where they 
belong. So I use the privacy brackets.

All these are added to the Master Surname List as a new surname.
To edit a surname, you need to edit it in the Master Surname list.
It shouldn't be too hard (though lengthy) as everything that starts [[ is 
together.
