Geoff, I just had a look at your syllabus document. In the Dates topic on page one you do not say anything about numeric date entry needing to match the users Windows regional setting for dates. Since the default numeric date for the US region is mo-day-year anyone from the US who entered a date as 1/4/1970 would have that interpreted as 4 Jan 1970 by Windows and by Legacy. I suggest you add something about that to the topic.
