I would not number "unknown" children because later on you might get, say, just the forename of one of them - how do you now whether it's the first, second or third (or whatever) child of the relationship. If you get a name and a birthdate and enter those for, say, child 1, having other children listed as Child 2, Child 3 etc would mislead you (and others) into thinking the other children were born later, which might not be so.
