*Should* is the word here, but *doesn't" should be the key word here.  Restarting my computer does not change the "You have the latest update." message even when I don't  With version 8 I always have to manually check for updates unlike version 7 or 7.5.

There is no auto check setting for checking on updates.
There is an option on the Legacy Home tab under Options >
Options > Internet Options tab to "Allow Legacy to connect
to the internet...."

If that's selected, it *should* show the update when you
open Legacy but sometimes it doesn't happen right away.
Also, if you leave Legacy running for a long time, it doesn't
necessarily update quickly.

You can click on the Updates heading to check as well.
