Legacy doesn't automatically update as I'm sure you know. It does update
some items on the Home Tab automatically - but there is a setting that
controls this.

Legacy has a setting to only check the internet if you click a link. See
under the Options button on the Home Tab - then choose Options -
Internet Options.
