But you don't have to come out from the main person.

  Hi Cathy
Its adding the note specific to the person that I am having trouble
with. I have a custom event WILL with roles Beneficiary (the default),
Executor, Names and some others and have managed to customise sentences
  for each.
Starting with the person for the event I go to the main Individuals
Information window, add the Will Event and then share it. Using the Name
List I select the individuals I want to share with, and then use the
drop down box beside them to choose the role I am assigning. Now comes
the problem - when I go to Edit Role I cannot do anything further. I
guess I was expecting that I could ad d the notes for the beneficiaries
here but it seems that I cannot, but have to then go into each
beneficiary individually to add the role specific notes. I will make a
suggestion to the writers as it would certainly require a lot less
navigating/mouse clicks to get all that information stored, especially
in those cases where there are 20 or more beneficiaries or named
individuals. (I am coming from TMG so theres always a focus on features
that you have particularly liked previously.) I use the role notes for
wills to detail what the beneficiary actually received - eg £5 within a
year after my decease and my 6 silver teaspoons.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply to my query.

    Hi Marlene,
I think you are confusing two different things.
Editing the role and adding a not e specific to a person with that role?

How you edit a role depends on where you are.
    > From the Name List after you've selected the people and clicked the
Select button a dialogue opens where you can assign roles from a drop
down list. At the bottom of that list there is an item to Add/Edit
Roles - this will take you to a screen where you can edit the Role Name
    or the Sentence Definitions.
On the side of that initial dialogue there is an Edit Role button. This
opens a screen where you can add a note specific to the highlighted
person. You can also get to where you can edit the role or the
sentences from that screen - from the role box at the top, the bottom
    item again is Add/Edit Roles.

If you start from the Event list of the person sharing the event, when
editin g that event you can click the Share Event and get to the same
screen OR you can click the Edit Event Definition button near the
bottom of the Edit Event screen and on a tab you'll find a list of the
Roles and if you highlight one and click Edit Role you can edit the
role name and the Share Event Sentences.

You might start from the person you've shared the event with. In their
Event List, you'll see the Events Shared from someone else with a
    symbol before them.
Highlight and click Edit Event and you'll be where you can add Notes.

    Hope that's not more confusing.

I like to add a note to the folk sharing an an event but I keep
      getting
      error messages..

Here is the text from the Help file

      Select from the Name List
The Name List appears with a column of checkboxes along the left side
      of
each name. Select the desired person or people by clicking on the
appropriate checkboxes and then click Select. All the selected
individuals are added to the Shared Li st. You can then change their
roles by clicking on each person in the list and then clicking the
      down
arrow in the Role column and choosing or adding the desired role. If
you want to add notes or comments or you want to change the default
event sentence for a particular person, highlight the person and click
Edit Role. (See Share Event With Another Person<hs549.htm>for more
      information.)

But when I add a person by selecting them, I can change the role from
the drop down list, but I cannot go to Edit Role - I get the error
message that says "Sorry, you cannot view the event sharing list since
this screen is already open". I don't want to view the list - I want
      to
edit the role - actually add a note .
      Any suggestions?

      kind regards
      Marlene
