It was my understanding that a public tree reveals everything. I could be wrong about that since I cannot verify it since Ancestry requires a membership to view public or private trees. My relatives complain about that all the time because they cannot see my public tree and only have a casual interest in genealogy.
I would never give Editor privileges to anyone unless I know them very well. I always give Guest to unknowns and Contributor if I personally know them or have been trading with them for years otherwise Editor gives free reign for someone to destroy my tree especially if they don't know what they're doing or decide they're an expert on my own family (I've had a few of those lately). Your mention of invitees reminds me of a situation a distant cousin had. She allowed someone to have access to her private tree not knowing this guest invitee was stealing her information and photos then reposting them to a public tree under her own name. This distant cousin had given me the exact same photos and information which I never shared with anybody else or online so I couldn't figure out why it was reposted under another person's name. That's something to think about when somebody asks for an invite to your tree. If you don't make your information public then somebody else might do it for you. RootsMagic will but they have delayed the release of this new feature as it's proving more difficult than first thought. These interactions are not easy. They're also not always desirable.
