Ian,
Are you using saved searches from Legacy 8?
The Search list was reorganised to alpha order in Legacy 9 as the list of what could be searched for had grown so long that the supposed logical groupings in the previous list were no longer obvious.

This seems to mean that anyone with Saved Searches has to re make and re save them. This isn't something that I have tested as I don't save searches. Although I use searches quite a lot, I'm usually searching for different things. But if they are being saved from position in the search list (which seems strange) then if the search saved in Legacy 9 isn't loading the same search, that would be a bug. The search items available in Legacy 9 vary slightly depending on what Hint sources you have turned on so if in the unlikely event the searches are saved by position, they'd always be changing if searching for things with starting letter greater than H.

Although several other searches are listed in the official Suggestion list, there haven't been any changes to what you can search for in the last few updates.

Perhaps we can ask that they lock in the search tools as well. I got caught again to-day as some upgrade changed the order and searched for Story title instead of Surname. Very distressing to think I may have missed a search response.

And No I can't think of a better way for them to keep it in order and yet usable, But I can mumble and complain easy enough :-)

Hmmmm, I thought for sure that it had been suggested but I don’t see it in our tracking system. Send it through one the suggestion form and I will get it added tomorrow.

Michele,

I was very interested to read the following in your post:

Has there ever been a feature recommendation to include the _AppData folder in Legacy’s backup system? As important as this folder is I would expect the folder would have been included as part of the backup long ago.

TIP OF THE DAY - How to backup the _AppData folder (Legacy Staff)

Legacy 8 and 9

Y'all know my backup routine by now but I actually left something out. This part of the routine will be very important if you ever have to do a "clean uninstall" which will start you over completely from scratch. You need to backup your _AppData folder. This folder holds your custom settings. Here is my complete routine...

1) I check to make sure I have no broken media links
2) I check/repair my file
3) I backup my data and media to cloud storage (I keep my backups on OneDrive) 4) I backup my _AppData folder and append the name it so that it has the same date and time stamp as my data and media backups

The file path to the _AppData folder is \Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData

To backup the _AppData folder simply RIGHT click it and select SEND TO > COMPRESSED (ZIPPED) FOLDER. The zip file is your backup. You can change the name of the zip folder.

I keep my 10 more recent backups and I go in and delete the older ones periodically. I backup my file VERY often, sometimes every day. In 12 years of using Legacy, I have only needed a backup file twice. One time I had a hard drive crash and the other time I had made some ill-advised global changes to my file that I regretted.
