Ian,

I have an interest in this location because it is the city of my husband’s
birth. I don’t know what the proper location entry fields should be. Anchorage,
before statehood, was known as Anchorage, Territory of Alaska.

All areas of Alaska are boroughs except for Anchorage, which is known as one
type of legality, incorporated as a city government but I believe the state
recognizes it differently for legal or technical purposes.

Before statehood, it’s pretty easy to figure out how to format the location,
but following statehood, exactly how should it be entered? Perhaps Anchorage,
Anchorage Borough, Alaska would be acceptable?

Here are my location notes for Anchorage, Alaska:

Alaska became the 49th state on Jan. 3, 1959. Prior to this date, Anchorage was
known as Anchorage, Territory of Alaska. It is the state's largest city. Though
its legal name is the Municipality of Anchorage, it is considered a
consolidated city-borough under state law.

Mary

I fully understand the two data base bit but It contradicts itself or is
redundant to legacy. How can software pull up data and then say its wrong and
survive.

This has been a problem in Legacy since it was first installed.

Hi regarding Anchorage. I was told by the help desk that the drop down menu
and the green ball refer to two different databases when I first encountered
this issue a couple years ago and to pick whichever makes the most sense. (I
like all the features and capabilities of Legacy, like the county checker, but
my "dream" has always been for Legacy to evolve into the Microsoft or Apple
format which have become industry standard whether other software companies
like it or not. Then we wouldn't have to guess what the green ball means or
how to copy/paste etc.)

Best Regards,

Jill

Lets start with one thing at a time. Anchorage, Type that in to the location
field in Family view for Born, Chr, Died, or Buried, Then click on the green
ball (Not sure what it represents ) and low and behold Anchorage , Anchorage,
Alaska, United States shows up.

Click ok. You get the message that there is no County Anchorage. And that
stops the next entry. So Being old and decrepid, I stop and fix that problem,
Now what was I going to enter ????

Second thing is search tools, I search using (For Example) individual, given
name, contains , AND individual, surname, contains and individual death date
contains. This happily works time and time again until suddenly without any
warning, given name will change to event notes, and my search is pooched. If
I see it right away great but If I miss it I end up making a duplication in my
file.

Third That duplication may turn up in the automatic duplicate check where the
fellows only wife will be marked as second spouse.

Ian,
I don't know what tool you are using re Anchorage so won't comment on that.

Which search fields change by themselves?

If you haven't got your spouses sorted go to Tools - Other Tools - Sort and
sort them if they have dates -otherwise you have to sort them individually in
the spouse list.

See Search - Find - Detailed Search tab
Individual - Find a Grave ID - and choose from equals, not equal to, contains,
starts with and wildcard
What more do you want?

Screen can be difficult to resize sometimes and why that is, is unknown.
If windows are opening in a different place, you probably need to delete
Legacy2.usr and perhaps some of the other Legacy#.usr to reset to defaults.
You'll find them in ...\Documents\Legacy Family Tree\_AppData\usr\ folder

Legacy isn't perfect. It's just better than other programs.

I tried to input Anchorage to-day, It came back with Anchorage,
anchorage etc and then when I said Yes thats it!!, It says there
was never a county such as Anchorahe in Alaska.

The minor annoyance of The Search Fields changing By them selves now
happens far more often, It never got fixed and now is worse.

The second spouse is still the first, Should have been fixed by now.

The FAG number should be in the search fields same as Family Search
and AFN.
I know it was not promised but that was a lot of work transferring the
FAG numbers to be useless in a search.

And now since the last update my Screen (window) never opens where it
is supposed to. and it changes its size..

Just mumbling out loud for anxiety releif.

Ian
