This is always a dilemma- purists seem to record the location as it was known 
at the time and make note of its current name.  I fall into this category.  
It's been my experience that some others who identify with a nationality, just 
as an example, Polish from what is now Poland, will record using the current 
location and cringe at the suggestion of recording their ancestral home as 
Austria-Hungary, or whatever.  Good luck!
