Andrew Don Quigley’s method works well, without dramas. I have done exactly that – mainly when I have included a lot of text descriptions in the Notes, and don’t have media attachments/links or sources, stories, etc.
Those provisos have never been a problem, because the “duplication” scenario (for me) has been one of a lot of uncertainty about the individuals at that point. However, as noted by Leon Chapman (his method creates a new Legacy database, rather than just exporting to a GECOM file), make sure the Tag that you use has been “cleared” – not already in use for other individuals that are not those you want to ‘duplicate’). However, you may need to consider this. The .GED file created will not have links to or “contain” media files (images, etc and other files treated as “media” by Legacy). Wasn't wanting an submerge, but a quick duplicate individual. Pieces of info belonged to each of the 2 real people. So I wanted to then choose what to delete in the original and new person definitions. I would think it a similar approach to duplication. Ok Perhaps not :-) But Perhaps if You did a select, save, create new (Cntr N) and then Copy Cntr R until data runs out , The majority of Fields would be created in a new Rin. Hi, I've been doing a lot of intense updates recently trawling probate records. One thing I'd love to be able to do quickly when having to split current information stored against 1 person into 2 separate people (same name, just a new RIN) is duplicate my current individual record... I looked for any such feature but could not find anything. Any others know how to do this?
