It is importing hundreds of thousands of locations into the database and is
adding them to several indexes at the same time...  Yes it takes a long
time.  And then you have to do the Compress step after you get them all
imported.  That too is slow.  But it gives you time to have dinner, watch
some television, relax, take a nap, catch up on some reading...take a world
cruise.
