In the past, I frequently "unlinked" my parents or my wife parents (or grandparents) to prepare a report or export to a new Legacy file or a GedCom using the focus group option to include the "Entire Ancestor Line (includes everyone linked in any way to the ancestor side of the current person. This includes all their descendants, all descendants' ancestors, etc...) By "unlinking", I am able to split out a portion of the tree, for one of *my* cousins for *our* family so that it does not include my wife's family. This works great, except when re-linking to my wife and our children one time, I inadvertently created a new marriage and thus lost our old MRIN that had been there through changes to several genealogy programs. We still have the same RINs that we had 15 years.ago. So, even though I've been careful (and lucky) those numbers WILL change!
