Mike,

"I'm a very keyboard oriented user, and avoid the mouse if I can possibly
do so."

That explains our different working techniques. I was also very heavily
keyboard oriented, but that is because my computer work started with dumb
terminals connected to mainframes. A mouse was not an option in those days.
Things were done with simple easy-to-remember commands and function keys.

When I had to adapt to Windows, I found there is no such thing as a simple
keyed command string anymore and there are nowhere near enough function keys
to replace them all. The rather pathetic substitute for the lack of
function
keys is the multiple-key command, of which there are way too many to ever
remember since there is no rational structure to them. The final key in the
multiple key command may occasionally have some mnemonic value, but darned
if
I can ever remember whether to precede it with Shift or Alt or Ctrl. Now,
Cut/Copy/Paste I can remember, but after that I find the once-dreaded mouse
to be the lesser of the evils. ;-)

Bob

I think different people are going to find different methods useful,
certainly. For me, I find that holding down the Alt key and tapping the tab
key a few times is a far quicker way of switching between applications, and
in
fact I find it much more useful with ten or twenty windows than I would with
just a couple -- the little window that comes up gives you the title of each
program, which is very helpful. Even with twenty windows an informal test
suggests I can get to any one of them in under two seconds. But my
experience
isn't going to apply to everyone; I'm a very keyboard oriented user, and
avoid
the mouse if I can possibly do so.
