right thing?

Embedding a picture in a file is the process of keeping a
physical copy as part of the file. In FTM when you add a picture
to a person FTM makes a copy of the file (using a lossy format
like .jpg if I remember correctly) and stores that copy in the
FTM database. In Legacy, which does not embed pictures, all that
is stored in the Legacy database is the address of the of the
original picture file on your hard drive.
The advantage of embedding is that wherever you take the FTM file
you can see the pictures. If you move the Legacy file off your
hard drive and do not take all the pictures with it you can no
longer see the pictures. The disadvantage of embedding is that
the file size grows very quickly since a copy of every picture is
included and picture files take quite a bit of space.
Legacy does offer the option of embedding pictures in the RTF
files when you generate a report. I have never seen an option to
embed the pictures in the Legacy database.
I would suggest that you say yes to the embedding of pictures in
reports you want to send to friends because then the RTF file
will include copies of the pictures and your friends will see the
pictures when they open the report. If you say no, the pictures
are not copied and when you send the file to a friend or relative
they will not be able to see the pictures. When you open the
report on your computer you will see the pictures because the RTF
file should include the address on your drive where the picture
is stored so for reports you make only for yourself there is no
need to embed the pictures.
