Shirley,

You said,

"I don't know about other wordprocessors, but WordPerfect has a macro that
converts endnotes to footnotes."

But doesn't Legacy output only bibliography-style or formatted sources? How
are you creating correctly formatted endnotes available for footnotes?

Thanks,
Robin

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Sourcing to Evidence! by Mills

I am another one who uses the Legacy database for research and simple
sharing of information.
I can't imagine going directly from a database to a "book" type of report.
Even for simple descendant charts to share, I create a wordprocessing
document as an interim. (Since I am using V5 Standard, Legacy will not
always create an RTF report, so then I create a text file)

I have done two of these in the last week in order to give
non-researchers-family an overview of what I have and what I need. Once I
open the report in my wordprocessor, I simply insert my questions in bold in
the appropriate spots. Then I save it as an RTF file and send that. My
sister-in-law sent it back with her answers in blue. It worked fine.

Re footnotes - I don't know about other wordprocessors, but WordPerfect has
a macro that converts endnotes to footnotes. Endnotes are fine on a family
group sheet, but on anything that is more than a few pages long, there is
too much flipping back and forth, so then I prefer footnotes. In one book,
I used a combination, putting the source notes at the end, but other notes
with clarifying or supplemental information as footnotes. My audience was
primarily non-researchers, who wouldn't usually be interested in the
sources, but the sources are still there for those who want to follow up.
