My thoughts on this are slightly different. I use (2) genealogy
software programs (ie. Legacy & The Master Genealogist) and both are
great in their own ways.
The way The Master Genealogist handles married names is via a Tag
which is similar to an Event that is attached to the wife.
The Tag/Event is called Name-Marr and the details that can be stored
against the Tag/Event are as follows:
Details/Description is the married surname
Date the married name change occurred is the same in both.
Place is the location of the Tag/Event in both.
Your could then develop a sentence format to have it occur in
reports, or just print by including the option tick box. This would
make it much easier for a report to be generated to use when doing
cemetery searches etc.
My thoughts on the subject, as Legacy does not see it important to
have this function even though many user have requested it. Other
genealogy software that use this method or similar was Generations
Family Tree. There may be others as well.

Bill,
If one wanted to be consistent with this method, wouldn't one place
all the bracketed names in the Title Suf category? Then the surnames
would print out in order of usage, for example:
Iva Beatrice PRATT (Keplinger) (Robertson) (Rutherford) Daniels
Just a thought...
