Flash drives can fail but it may still be viable option for some as a good
backup. I was use one frequently knowing that the chances that my hard
drive and my flash drive crashing at the same time may not be a cause for
worry. However, I then switched to a pocket sized external portable 40GB
hard drive. I use it for all my backups of data, documents, and photos.

Subject: [LegacyUG] flash drives for backup

Be aware that flash drives can fail. My daughter lost some very
important college work by saving her work on a flash drive that failed.
(It was a Sony, so buying a good one doesn't make a difference.) I
regularly use the flash drive to move work from one computer to another,
but not to save info permanently.
