Agreed.
I use Leo to author markdown and ConTeXt, and such keybindings would be helpful. I've trained myself for years to write in plaintext anyways, so this isn't a breaking point for me, but I totally agree that such keybindings are invaluable to the initiate/non-programmer crowd.
As a side note, Terry's richtext.py plugin *kinda* offers standard keybindings in a wysiwyg environment. I just tried ctrl+b within a @rich node and strange things happen... but the text does get bolded... in a fashion. Hard to explain.
