Well, I haven't said that something might suggest, that right clicking is 
available, but only that some action is available (i.e. 
http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1405543&seqNum=3, Fig. 6.9; 
I know, it's not much).

This would help if it were combined with a tooltip. But then, once the user 
knows that right clicking is available, he doesn't need the tooltip any 
longer. So he should be able to deactivate it. But probably this isn't 
worth the trouble. 
Another mousepointer (instead of the resizing pointer that is shown right 
now) could give an additional hint. But I don't know what Qt has to offer.
A more detailed description of the Leo window that includes the splitter in 
'The Basic's of Leo' would help.
An additional 'Layout' button/icon in the button bar/toolbar (or a 'Layout' 
menu) could make this functionality visible.
