Edward: Its my understanding that bookmarks are supposed to only refer to the "head node" of an outline we want to refer to. So we can put several new bookmarks under another bookmark to create a new view. If we put the full packed outline, we will be back to having clones. This is my understanding of the "tree packing" you are talking about, but I think im not getting your idea, could you please explain approximately how the packing would work?
