My thinking on this one has changed over the last few days.  Backlinks are 
important for sure.  This means that of you link zettel A to zettel B, then 
the system knows that zettel B should also be linked to zettel A.  However, 
keeping all that information in the zettel itself might make for the zettel 
getting too long.  Remember that part of the zettelkasten system depends on 
the notes being short and focused. 

When the system sets up the links, it certainly can create and keep track 
of the backlinks.  But maybe, if the data is exported to text, there should 
be a separate file that only contains these backlinks.  That might fulfill 
the intention of having all the information available in simple text files 
while keeping the individual zettels short and relatively clean.

Of course, if we have our system working, it could export just the text of 
the zettel if that's what we need for say publishing papers.  That's a 
separate matter from recovering our data.
