This was already done by some people that use names like "Kafe" and "Lava"
if my memory doesen't fails.
Kaffe is the name of one of the free Java interpreters, but (as far as
I know) everyone calls the language Java. Ordinarily in the past that
would have been fine. The issue your message led me to think about is
that "Java" is a Sun trademark. This gives Sun a partial but harmful
control over how people use the language, and over the development of
the language, which they use to the detriment of free software.
Perhaps therefore in that case we should do what we never needed to do
before: propose a different name for the language itself.
