I hadn't put the thing in question in trac because I'm not 100% sure
it's the cause of the problem; anyway as I said I had the same problem
when passing the groupadd and useradd (more precisely) commands. If I
remember right with Shadow-4.0.15 I received an unknown group 100 and
from Shadow-4.0.17 and forth I received an unknown group 1000; as said
yesterday I solved these adding a group 100 users and patching
/etc/default/useradd to change the default group to 100, after that no
more unknown anyway I think (but never tried) that adding a group 1000
users should solve the behavior too.
Then: I'm not a lfs developer nor I claim to be; I simply replied here
because of same things happened on my system and said as I solved them
(really unneeded).
Don't worry about not being a developer. Your input can only help
improve the project if you find something you think is in error.
Comments in trac aren't limited to editors only.
