I do want to apologize Chris. I was a bit rude. I thought you might be playing with people a bit. Definitely give a distro a try. Knoppix, Ubuntu, SUSE... The only problem with most of them is you will spend most of your time in X. If you are really wanting to get to know GNU/Linux, whatever you use, don't install X at first.
