Modular PSUs where you have to fit the normal connectors *before* you put the PSU in the chassis (otherwise you cannot see where the black sockets are - almost as if somebody from Disaster Area designed them) and SATA power connectors are currently on my hate list. For the test machine - I know an ex-computer when I see one, and this is an ex-computer. Fitted a new PSU, no difference (so, I suspect the original PSU is probably fine). But while fighting the cabling, I discovered the heatsink clip seemed a bit loose. So as a second step I applied some new heatsink compound. No change. My preliminary *guess* is that the heatsink worked loose, and even whilst nominally powered off the APU eventually got too hot. But it is equally possible that the clip only loosened when one of the main PSU cables brushed against it, and the real fault is in the Mobo. I'm starting to be dubious about that brand, but I don't want to be sued for defamation so I won't name them. For the server, I've ordered a barebones i3 (I was hoping to do that since the end of last year, the athlon64x2 was too slow for verifying backups and probably using more power than is necessary - but until now that seemed the least urgent of the things I wanted to do). I'll see if I can fix the current one tomorrow, and if so it can go back into use. Otherwise, it will probably be a week or more before I'm back on the project. Whether I get anything to replace the A10 remains to be seen. ĸen
