Usually, you will get much better advice on lfs-support : many of
the people who hang out there do not read -chat. And you would be
surprised at the number of people who say they met the system
requirements but had errors in the check : I think we tightened that
up for 7.9, but things can still slip through the net.
In particular, you need to note the details of what error message(s)
you get when it fails. Posting the version-check output might be
useful.
Apart from what Kyle has said : is this a 32-bit system ? There
have been posts from people failing to build 32-bit in the past
month, but I don't think a general problem has been identified at
the moment. For 8GB RAM I hope this is a 64-bit build.
Me, I don't use debian - I prefer kbd to console-tools. Mostly I
use LFS as the host ("eat your own dog food").
