At least you had success. I'm still struggling with GCC pass 1 on Arch.

Success!!

Other than messing up ncurses, which I found when I tried to compile psmisc,
and a kernel-panic, everything went well. I went back at psmisc and recompiled
ncurses which fixed that issue, I must have missed a line between terminal
screens. Recompiled the
kernel using mostly defaults and it's up and running. I purposely skipped over
Grub as this is setup to dual boot and grub is already on the other system.

I sincerely appreciate all the suggestions and take all of them to heart.

Thank you Doug, Daniel, Richard, Ken and Kyle.
Next stop BLFS after some much needed rest.

Daniel

I deleted the link, then recreated it to point to /bin/bash
Debian complains severely when you try to remove dash completely.

At this point I've made it past my previous hang-ups and just finished the 2nd
pass of gcc.  Looking good at this point. I should finish late tomorrow due to
work/sleep schedule.

Just in case this wasn't mistyped: you shouldn't be overwriting

/bin/dash with a link to /bin/bash.  What the LFS book requests is to

replace the default link /bin/sh -> /bin/dash on Debian systems with a

link /bin/sh -> /bin/bash.  (Though, that said, I've never actually

even found that to be necessary for building LFS on Debian hosts.)
