The breakage so far (apart from bdftopcf and core X fonts) is
probably not related to omitting libXfont.
But now I've got another one, without any real idea what is wrong :
thunderbird.
I've never used this. It built ok, but when I started it I declined
the offer to import settings from seamonkey (mainly because I've
never used seamonkey other than as a browser), and it just sits
there. None of the menus work, I think it is dead. Seems unlikely
that missing the old core fonts would do this (even xscreensaver
gives a *small* panel when it starts, with legible text), but who
knows.
I forgot to add that, since I would very much like to deprecate all
the old xorg core fonts, when I get to the end of building
everything which I think *might* break without core fonts, I hope to
add minimaal core fonts (libXfont, bdftopcf, adobe 100 dpi) and then
retry all the possibly-broken packages.
But there is a *lot* to try before I get to there, and I'm not sure
if I've got the patience.
If we were trying to build a minimal system, I would agree that the Xorg
fonts are probably not needed, but does having them really hurt anything?
