I'm currently running Debian for reasons beyond the scope of this post,
but in my /etc/vim/vimrc, I've found

" Uncomment the following to have Vim jump to the last position when
" reopening a file
"if has("autocmd")
"  au BufReadPost * if line("'\"") > 1 && line("'\"") <= line("$") | exe 
"normal! g'\"" | endif
"endif

Maybe you'll find a similar command in your Vim configuration?
