Hi all,
Hi there!
I have searched the web site for an history of the lfs, but I couldn't
find it, can you tell me if there is one ?
Honestly don't know..
My point is I built (b)lfs-6.1, and I would like to start another
build, and I was wondering if that would be worth (as it will be only
my second build) to do with lfs-6.1.1, or if I should wait for next
6.2. But I couldn't find any hint on the release scheduling, like if
the next stable will be in 6 months, I will build the 6.1 (or current
svn, which may be more useful for you, as we can report problems on
it, if we have some, and I could learn even more).
I don't know about the release schedules (or if there are any), as I'm
not one of the editors.
Maybe you should ask yourself what you want from your system. The latest
stable (6.1.1) will give you just that, and will probably give you less
headache if you want to compile sources outside BLFS, as it's using
GCC-3.4.3. On the other hand, LFS-svn is more up-to-date, and use
GCC-4.0.2, which may cause some programs to fail when compiling.
BLFS-svn has patches for all programs that need it, so it's not really a
big deal until you go beyond that. My basic motto is that "if it doesn't
compile, I probably don't need it :)". Of course you could also install
GCC-3.4.3 for compiling those nasty out-dated buggers ;)
I've been using SVN version for the last dozen builds, and there's been
no major issues with it. Of course, I don't have any critical production
system running here, in which case I would definately not recommend any
SVN version.
Thanks, for any help or comments !
Your welcome :)
Hope it helps, and good luck on you journey
