Hi,

I have a working lfs-6.1.1 (svn-20051019) on my P-III laptop.

I have installed "merged branch" lfs-svn-20060423 on another partition. There was no problems during install of the new lfs. I have configured kernel-2.6.16.5 to include network card and all the other devices as in my earlier lfs-6.1.1.

On booting my new lfs from the new partition, I get the boot-message

"Interface eth0 doesn't exist [WARN]"

I then copied the newly-compiled kernel-2.6.16.5 to my old lfs-6.1.1 and booted it with this kernel. Here, the eth0 was detected as normal and there was no problem.

I have installed the new lfs twice just to eliminate any errors that may have gone undetected during install. The second time I took care to ensure that no error went un-noticed.

No "warning message" is also received regarding "missed events" of device-detection, like mentioned in Sec-6.55 Udev-088 of the Book.

I, therefore, conclude that the problem has cropped up as a result of installing the "udev-merged branch" and because of droping "hotplug".

Has anyone else also experienced this problem?

What could be the cause and remedy of this problem?

Thanks & Regards

Randhir Phagura
