I've just looked at one of my own 7.8 logs - I had assumed that configure ended with that warning, but in my case it appeared during configure's run. Not quite sure how James even managed to notice it, he must have kept a log, or at least looked at config.log (which would be deleted when the source directory was deleted by his script).
