Well, doing some more internet searches and having the time to compile again... (1 SBU is 34 secs for me) gave me this: On the second pass of GCC the variables being set and the configuration script needed to be on one line for it to work properly. It would be nice to have it say right at that part: This next snippet of code must all be on one line, or else you will have to start over.
Thank you for your time in this.

Whenever a line ends with a \ it means that the code on the next line is a part of the first line.

Excerpt from: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/lfs/view/stable/prologue/typography.html

   In some cases, a logical line is extended to two or more physical
   lines with a backslash at the end of the line.

   CC="gcc -B/usr/bin/" ../binutils-2.18/configure \ --prefix=/tools
   --disable-nls --disable-werror

   Note that the backslash must be followed by an immediate return.
   Other whitespace characters like spaces or tab characters will
   create incorrect results.

All Code Blocks are written so they can be easily read, and can be copy'pasted directly from the webpage to the console.
