If that is clear to everyone than until now I didn't see one meaningful
argument against having some sane defaults for everyone.
Attached for example the .dir-locals that emacs developers use.
I don't think they are IDE-nannies either, but working on the emacs code
you get "forced" to these settings, there must be a good reason ;)
Would be safer (as in absolutely safe) provide .el and .vimrc in a
separate dir, so people could opt in.
