We have been sidetracked from the actual contents of the patch to flames
about the human condition, so it's not surprising that your comment is
based on that confusion.

My check target is designed to be a convenient shorthand for all compile
and test targets all at once.  Thus when you run "make check" you can
be sure not to have forgotten whatever obscure extra target may exist
in the bowels of the build system.

There is no need for renaming.  Some tests could be added to fate or
removed, but that is orthogonal to this patch.
