My check target is designed to be a convenient shorthand for all compile
and test targets all at once. Thus when you run "make check" you can
be sure not to have forgotten whatever obscure extra target may exist
in the bowels of the build system.
There is no need for renaming. Some tests could be added to fate or
removed, but that is orthogonal to this patch.
Possibly the number of targets might be reduced, that said if enough
people find that useful why not, it isn't particularly invasive and for
people used to proper autotools the check target is something they are
already accustomed.
