I do check the results of the seek and I do check the best_effort_timestamp, but yes, it could be a bug in my code. Or it could be a problem with AVI files. I'll look into it and let you know what happens. I also noticed that the huffyuv code is all pure C with no MMX or SSE instructions. Is the reason for that because huffyuv wouldn't benefit from MMX or SSE? Or is it because nobody had time to optimize it yet?
