They were brutal. I am not denying that. However it also true that
many natives were wiped about by diseases they contracted from the
Spaniards such as smallpox. Obviously, the Spaniards did not
deliberately give the natives smallpox and thus many natives were not
killed intentionally by the Spaniards but were unintentionally killed
by them because they contracted smallpox and other diseases from the
Spaniards.
