 (snip)

; remember that Kerry ran against libertarian William Weld for US Senate
and slammed Weld repeatedly for being a "libertarian," so he knows full well
who libertarians are.)
***
Steve L.: Weld is a libertarian?? I suppose ANYONE can CLAIM to be
libertarian. Everyone WANTS to be libertarian. Even Bill Clinton at one
time claimed to be "libertarian".

But simply calling oneself "libertarian" is kinda' like calling oneself
"Christian" or "ethical". An onlooker can quickly discover the truth of
ones convictions by watching their actions. >>>

Now imagine that Bush was getting creamed by Badnarik on issue after
issue.
***
Steve L.: I don't have to imagine it...Bush DID get creamed on issue after
issue by Badnarik. :-) >>>

Don't you think that Bush would destroy Badnarik in one swoop with the
question, "Mr. Badnarik, though you seem to be a nice fellow... what
political office have you ever held? What qualifications do you have to be
Commander in Chief? I note you never even served in the Military. And how
can we take your views on domestic matters seriously when you've never had
to manage budget as I did for 6 years as Governor of the Nation's 2nd
largest State."
***
Steve L.: Bush would have destroyed himself by bringing up his own
desertion during wartime. And Bush was at least politically savvy enough to
not bring up his own past. His record of destroying several businesses
prior to his election as governor was plenty embarassing. Gahd, he even
traded away Sammy Sosa when he owned the Astro's. >>>

The solution is simple; LIBERTARIAN PARTY NOMINATE SOMEONE WITH SOME
BACKGROUND IN 2008 - A JESSE VENTURA OR GARY JOHNSON, at the very least an
Ed Thompson or Don Gorman (!!!) not some Party Activist with little if any
political background.
***
Steve L.: I am more than willing to LOOK at other candidates than tried
and true Libertarians. Ed and Don I know and trust. I don't know the other
two, except by how they treated the LP in their states.

IMHO, a political resume is over rated. Art Olivier was former mayor of a
midsize city. It didn't help him. Ron Paul was a former congressman and
his running mate, Andre Marrou, was a state legislator. They didn't do much
better than Badnarik with his admittedly embarrassing running mate.

The only resume I look for in a candidate is one that can talk the talk and
walk the walk.

THAT is where Ventura, Weld, and the republican party in general comes up
woefully short.
