And the party's principles are chosen by its members. Granted,
"purists" (myself included) have become somewhat comfy in the notion
that there will never be a 7/8ths majority to modify the party's
Statement of Principles, but the fact remains that it could happen. If
the members decide to modify the party's principles, or its "line,"
then that's exactly what they'll do.
