While I would not call Hitchens libertarian, In a recent statment
he presents an argument that is neither typical of neoconservatives
or Trotsky Communist. The statment appears in the May issue of Reason
page 10 in a short article by Juilan Sanchez titled NSA blowback-
Suing the
Spooks.
" Its hard to mount a legal challenge against a highly
classified government warrentless wiretapping program when the list
of potential plantiffs may be a state secret. So the ACLU has
assembled a group of jounalist, lawyers and activist to challenge The
National Security Agency's program. One of the journalist going for
the suit is prowar pundit Christoper Hitchens, in his submitted
statement Hitchens says he is bridled at being ask to trust the state
to know best when the agencies entrusted with our protection have
repeatedly been shown, before and after the fall of 2001, to be
conspicous for their incompentence and
venality".
I say right on Mr. Hitchens, why trust the powerful,
wasteful and mean natured government to do what is best when they
have screwed up over and over again before 9/11 and since, plus they
are down right mean and aggroant about it. They can not be trusted to
defend our liberty or our lifes, they are almost useless for homeland
defense and they are big screw ups when it comes to foreign ventures
and foreign
affairs.
How in the world are libertarian going to get over the
importance of liberty and responsiblity if they are not willing to
admit in public what Mr. Hitchens is submitting in a class action
lawsuit against the government. Now many libertarians will admit it
and they are trying to educate the public about it but why aren't the
pro war libertarians willing to admit what pro war Christopher
Hitchens is admitting?--- In [email protected], "Andr
