I believe that if there is an orginized transnational group in your
backyard, you would have to be nuts not to develop a relationship
and gain inteligence on them. The CIA had links to Al-Qaida, and
supported its operations in Afghanistan against the soviets incase
you hadn't forgot. Do you recal the video tape phootage released
showing that Sadam had warned the US of the immenant threat possed
by groups such as Al-Qaida? I think at a cabnet level meeting he
said something to the effect of "they are going to get it, and it
will not come from Iraq, I told them but they do not listen."

>From a realist view, there should be no goverment from Syria to
Pakistan with out links to Al-Quada unless it is run by inept fools.
Things are very messy in reality, very intermixed for many reasons.

Now how do you respond, given that Sadam was maintaining contact
with us and sharing inteligence on Al-Qaida, warning us of them, and
that with his ouster the power vacume has allowed the Al Qaida
freindly Zarqawi network to make some operational headway with out
the eagle of of the Bathist regime watching its every move in a way
the US never could, and with that space is now recruiting and
training more extreemists than it ever has before, how are we beter
off?
