Because van Gogh was murdered because of one thing; his support for free speach rights. It'd be like the current President of the ACLU being murdered in the streets of Washington, DC. Could you imagine the outcry on that? Same deal with van Gogh, except it happened in a small country in Western Europe that doesn't get much attention.
