Which is pretty much the case.  If there were no government to protect
your private property ownership, you could only keep what you could
defend, and there will always be someone bigger, stronger, and tougher
than you who can take what's yours and in anarchy, you'd have no
recourse when they did other than some sort of vigilante justice with
a lynch mob or something.
