Let's get some historical context here.

Were you around in the LP in the 1980s? I was. I remember the
issue of LP News that had Dick Randolph's letter of resignation from
the Libertarian Party, when he switched to the GOP.

It was HUGE NEWS ACROSS THE LIBERTARIAN MOVEMENT. Everyone was
talking about it. Randolph was the LP's first ever State Legislator
and highest ever elected official.

Today you have a similar occurence. (Though, you could argue that
that Sheriff in Colorado is equal to a County Executive in Georgia.)

Talking about Randolph's defection to the GOP was very, very helpful
to the movement.

I believe it was such a devastating blow to the LP Psyche that the
LP took a major turn-around away from the Berglandista Radicals and
went so far to recruit a former US Congressman to run for President
on the LP ticket for 1988.

Perhaps this Brandon defection could serve the same purpose.
Perhaps it could be such a blow to the LP Psyche; make LPers
think "Damned man, we better do something drastic, and quick" that
the LP just might recruit a top-notch Presidential candidate for
2008. (Although you all may have already done that with Doug
Stanhope?)

That's why it's extremely important.
