There have always been sufficient volunteers for wars in which our country was actually threatened. Imposition of the draft would make unconstitutional, unnecessary wars even more prevalent then now.

Again, I contend that a mercenary force is not a good solution in a free society, and that we will not get enough volunteers any other way, sans the draft. In your last statement, substitute the word war for draft. Although it is undeniably evil, it is sometimes necessary.
