Pakistan and Israel are run by governments friendly to the US. I think Russia controls all the ex-Soviet nukes. Those do not represent the same level of threat as if Islamists had nukes.
I think the US would have far less crime and corruption with drug decriminalization. But I don't see secular politicians proposing that. In Europe, religion is almost dead, and secularism dominant, yet they have laws against drugs, too. The only difference I see between the secular left and religious right on drugs is that the former wants to use government to forcibly treat drug offenders, while the latter wants to imprison offenders. Both imprison drug dealers. Neither side is trying to decriminalize. The big nanny state advocates in the US come from the secular left, not the religious right. Note that communism -- the mother of all nanny state systems -- is an atheistic movement.
